Who would you be working for and what's your package like?
Being in Khartoum is a plus, other cities can be tough and quite isolating. The people of the Sudan (not the govt. officials) are exeptionally friendly and hospitable. The Sudanese people love foreigners; most people are eager to befriend you and lend you a hand even without you asking. However, safety is an issue in a country that has been very unstable.
Health is major concern with malaria reaching an epidemic rate (capital included). Health care facilities are abundant, ranging from basic to modern.
The weather in the Sudan is the worst I have experienced so far; almost 10 months a year of hot weather (about 100 F), dust storms, etc. Frequent power outages make it even worse. If you do this, make sure you live in a building that has an operating generator.
Cost of living is very reasonable, but then again that will depend on your lifestyle. |
