This is more of an observation than a complaint. I mailed some employment materials to my new employer (AUS) and over the course of 11 days they still have not arrived via USPS.
Meanwhile, the authenticated document that I had to FEDEX at the last minute to get there has already arrived.
No one seems worried, but GRRRRR
Anyone else have similar experiences? |

US mail takes anywhere from 7 - 14 days on the average - rather a large range, I know. AUS is used to the problem.
I can even tell you why it happens. Somewhere in the wilds of the USPS office at JFK in NYC, there is a big bin. When it gets full, they load it onto an airplane to the Gulf. Thus, it is all in the timing. If your letter lands in a full bin - it can arrive in 7 days or even less sometimes. If it hits the bin the day after, it is lucky to get there in 14 days.
True story from Gulf War One - we stopped receiving US mail. After about three weeks without anyone getting anything, I told my mother to call the Postmaster General's office in Washington DC - and it was long distance for her. Our mail normally came Gulf Air, which had pretty much cancelled all its flights. I told her to tell them to call their JFK office and have the staff there check some airline schedules and get our mail on a plane!!! She called, got transferred a few times, told a few people the story, and within 2 days of her call - over 20 bags of mail were delivered to the airport in Oman.
