I'm planning to take 6 months to a year off in 2011 and I'd like to teach overseas. I've got all the education and certs I need plus I teach ESL part-time at a local university so I'm plenty qualified. One of the countries I've thought about is Venezuela as I was there years ago and just loved the Andes. Cities like San Cristobal or Merida look like great places to hang out for year, teach English and learn Spanish.

The problem I'm having is the inability to find out about available jobs in the country. Is there no EFL industry in the country? Haven't found much info or openings on Dave's. Can anyone give me some info on the teaching situation in the country and/or job leads?

I should say that I will be 54 and that may hurt me but at least I don't have to worry about money as I've got enough in savings to carry me for quite awhile.

Thanks for any info you can share.

DirtGuy

johnslat,

Actually, I did find postings about the country but I was hoping to find much more recent ones. Thanks for sending this as I did get some good info.

Dear DirtGuy,

Here's another good one - but unfortunately a little dated (2007)

Venezuela doesn't get the best press. That being said, I almost ended up teaching there, but there was a major coup and evacuation of embassy staff. I STILL wanted to go, but the transportation strike meant that I wouldn't have been able to get to the city where I was supposed to work from the capital.

I know the VENUSA sends teachers there and gets visas. At the time, Rosa was the coordinator. I'm not sure who is not. BUt it's a legit programme that you might want to check out.
