Occasionally, on this forum, there are queries about jobs in India. Those that reply sometimes refer to the possibility of getting jobs training call centre workers in the use of a "proper" accent, modern slang, etc.

However, I've just come across an article that cites an Indian Govt report on the conditions of call centre employees, referring to instances of exploitative and demeaning working environments. Naturally, the industry spokespersons dispute those findings. Any FTs working in such places probably wouldn't be bound by such conditions - nevertheless, who would want to work for an organisation that treated its other employees badly ? Those contemplating working in India might find the article interesting : http://www.theage.com.au/articles/2005/10/30/1130607153209.html

I worked in an IELTS language school in Bangalore, India and would often read the newspaperadvertisements recruiting young graduates for call centres.
Shocked
The call centres seemed to focus on American accents because the calls received were mostly from Americans living in America, unaware that they were actually speaking to someone in another part of the world.
