I guess this is still very much a NOOB question, but I would certainly enjoy some opinions on this....
Obon is fast approaching, and it's already too late (or almost too late) to make arrangements at hotels or for travel, etc...
For those of you who know me and where I am.... I live in Yamanashi pref. with my wife... We don't exactly have a huge amount of yen to spend, but I would certainly like to do something for the Obon holiday. After all, since arriving we've only seen Tokyo and Yamanashi so far and otherwise have had no chance to see ANYTHING in Japan yet....
I also haven't found any books entitled "Japan on 1000 Yen a Day" so I'm wondering what might be something fun to do (that lasts anywhere from a few days to a whole week) that won't completely blow the budget for the next year...
What do you think?
Please consider answering the poll even if you have nothing to contribute.
Cheers,

Why don't you try a house swap with someone in another part of Japan? |

I know its probably a long way to go but have you thought about the Awa-Odori Dance festival in Tokushima. pretty famous in this part of teh woods
Its a 3-day party that takes place over 3 days over O-Bon and they close off the streets to traffic. Have been twice and its a blast- everyone gets dressed up in happi coats and just lets their hair down. |

I was just about to post that.
Thing is, if you want to go don`t wait to make a hotel reservation. Hotels will be totally full.
