I am very new to the web site as well as this forum board. I have expressed with two messages my concerns of a language centre which were placed and then removed. I have a bit of a concern when a teacher who has a very ugly incident and wants to report it so fellow teachers cant suffer like I did. Then why would this forum remove the complaint when it should protect us.
1- At this time I have notice that over the last few weeks all complints about English First are removed very quick . WHY
2- I ask all teachers is there a web site that allows overseas teachers to post there issue without it being removed ? 3- What is the best way to pass the word on to fellow teachers regarding a bad incident .

For me the events that happened will be over but as a person I want to do my best to help others avoid the language Centre that in my mind placed fear on my family.
Please express the answers to the three questions. I am sure this will be removed soon so please express as fast as you can.....

Thank You

Please note that negative comments about ALL the chain English mills are removed quickly here. This is because these companies will bring legal pressures to bear upon Dave S and the other good people who own and operate this web site. It isn't just the chain you mention- I've had this experience myself several times when talking about Another English School.

These schools rely pretty heavily on the global reach and popularity of this site for recruiting teachers. They know they can't justify or defend their actions and policies and yet they only want Happy Thoughts seen by the viewing public. This, rather than by earning them, is how they maintain their "good reputations".

We can talk freely about these schools only on a site whose owner can't be sued...an increasingly difficult accomplishment.
Be subtle in what you say...it might last longer than flaming.
And don't work for the chain English mills...any schools that are forced to resort to these tactics deserve to hire only whatever dregs they can dupe until they finally collapse.

Sometimes the complaints are a bit over the top, aren't they? In not a few cases, people make a much bigger issue of things that under a magnifying glass still look tiny, but in the minds of some subjectively perceiving themselves to have been wronged look like a major catastrophe.
There might be some impostors/posters acting in the name of a competitor school trying to discredit EF or whoever.
I am not saying any of the complaints re EF are untrue; but it certainly is a fact that some people merely post negative comments that they fail to substantiate!

Because they pay a lot of money to advertise on this forum and they are able, and willing, to complain. Don't worry; it's just because they know you have them on the ropes. Head office up at Shanghai don't want people reading about how their grandly-titled 'Global Academic Operations Manager' does not even have a BA! Just some young kid with a few years of bog standard TEFL. Most of their DoSs have less than 1 year's experience and most do not have anything more than a TEFL certifcate (and maybe a poxy BA); some are not even native speakers. As everyone in China TEFL knows, EF schools are full of unqualified, unexperienced kids; EF Huizhou, for example, has no less than 4 teachers with no degrees OR TEFL certificates; and they 'train' others!!!!!!!

I take it you mean 'their'? I don't know of any. Listen, if I were you I would write to EF head office in Shanghai; unless you tell them what happened they will never know and it will just keep on happening to others. What area were you in?. You can email the top manager in China:

[email protected]

Be polite and professional, set out your problem, stress that it was the CM (SD), i.e., a franchise holder, i.e., a representative of EF.

Rodger I agreee
Both my son and I worked for the same school at different times, I had no problem but he did, yes it can be subjective.

I think that if they put your family in danger then this is a serious issue that you should take to the police. I think that legal pressure is a sure bet if you have been wronged.

I have never personally worked at EF but know quite a few of their teachers and managers. Most of the EF franchises are run honestly, but I agree that there are some EF franchises run dishonestly. You have made your point about the one EF school. Frankly speaking, if you are planning to spend your time on this site trashing EF then it is unfair to all the good EF schools out there. One bad apple does not make a bad apple tree.

And in not a few cases the complaints are entirely justified, freakin' huge, and experienced first hand.
But the can be subjective...I'm sure even the most abusive schools can find a satisfied veteran somewhere...
