I am with ANZ Australia and looking for advice as to how to go about withdrawals & saving accounts in Japan (basically the whole kit & caboodle). I've been told that travellers cheques are my only option because CIRRUS doesn't work over there. Can anyone explain any more? Thank ye kindly.

My ANZ ATM card works at the Post Office International ATM and they are everywhere.
Also setup an Internet account make it alot easier to sort out any financial matters back home and it's easy to access from here.

This is really useful information to remember as post office staff are often unaware that their ATM's accept international cards.

I was stuck in a little onsen town once, went to the local (tiny) post office which had no ATM. They phoned the bigger one about ten miles away to ask if my card would work. After a few minutes consultation over the phone I was told, categorically, that their ATM did not accept international cards.

Luckily I was suspicious and went anyway and found that my card worked. All the larger P.O. ATM's are the same as far as I know. Can be a real life saver.
