NOVA has been removed from the list of schools approved by the Japanese government for the kyoiku kunren kyufukin scheme (education training / unemployment benefits system).

 対象となるのは指定を受けている32講座で、20日以降に受講し始めると、給付金を受け取れなくなる。同社は取り消しから5年間、新たな指定を受けられない。

 この制度は、労働者の能力開発や再就職支援のため、厚労相の指定する講座の受講料を補助する制度。雇用保険料で賄われ、現在は受講料の4割(上限20万円)が受講者に支給されている。NOVAについては、経産省の処分内容が、「教育訓練を実施する者として著しく不適当」という、指定除外基準に当てはまると判断された。

 同社は、1999年10月に最初の指定を受け、今年4月までに、約7万1000人の受講生が約160億9000万円を受給した。この指定は受講生を勧誘する際の大きな武器となっており、今後の同社の事業運営に影響を与えそうだ。

 同社広報担当は「生徒に迷惑のかからない対応を考える。再度指定を受けられるような環境作りに努めたい」としている。

I read the above article earlier today. Basically the tie-in deal that Nova had to teach government employees is suspended for 5 years. Looks like more money out of their pockets.
