where are lower cost apartementos bedroom living room kitchen ... , (bed room + kitchen sitting place fine too), furnished.
Location: Between Calle 43 (east) and Calle 38 (west) approximately. Easy and safe access (stairs ok), walking distance to tourism type activity areas preferred. No hell of a noise <g>. No car park required.
Arriving Nov 30, trying to find by Dec 6. 3 month max.
Calle + Avenida numbers please, I'll convert these into SJ-wordage when I get there, using the map I have. Thanks |

I havent read any of your other posts but La Nacion the most popular news paper generally has some pretty good listings. www.nacion.com You may have to sign up as a user. Its free though. Good luck |

You'll find it hard to get a furnished place for a 3 month lease (which is what I think you said in your post). If you're looking for less than 6-12 months, budget in loosing your deposite - or if you're comfortable being shifty, just don't pay the last month & they'll ask you to leave......
As far as where to look - La Nacion has a lot of adds, but there are many more places that you'll find by word of mouth, posted in the supermarket, or with a sign hanging on the building. (Difficult if you're not here yet!)
You should also consider looking in the communities surrounding San Jose. San Pedro, for example is readily accessible by MANY of the busses.
Furnished will be tough (but be persistent, it's quite expensive to buy furniture here & many unfurnished places will not even have a stove of fridge).
As far as "tourism type activities" that probably means only the very center of San Jose - this is a country of natural wonders, not so much cultural or historic.
Good luck! |

thanks for all your info. The search area I included was pretty large already to walk and view for notices. You increased it by adding places further away from the center. I'll stay in a hotel in centro the first few days to take time and for the search. The ideas was to get more specific areas where to look for furnished small places - while remaining in a safe area.
Example:
I only know MexCity and Acapulco a little of all latin countries. In both places I could be pretty specific where to look for low cost accommodation, including furnished apartments in Aca.
I'll be at SJ: McDonalds - breakfast time; Grand Hotel - lunch and later on Dec.1-4 ..., hope to gain info from some people there. My hotel address is available by private mail.
I am not very much into tourism activities - but where "temporary residents" meet is the place I visit - to collect info - usually at a regular interval. Otherwise I just live there at a low cost, avoiding tourism prices. Of course I will visit some nature sights, whether these will be tourism spots remains to be seen. |

They were tricky to find. My Spanish is decent and it confused the hell out of me at first. There is no direct link to them on the front page, or any direct link to a classified section at all... Not like most papers I'm used to.
Anyways, here's the direct link to aparments for rent.
http://www.economicos.com/navigate.do?parm_Pagina=0&parm_Accion=Navegar&parm_Nodo=13&parm_Nivel=2&parm_Tipo=1&parm_Texto=
If that doesn't work for some reason, on the front page click Servicios and scroll down to Avisos econmicos, click that and then click BIENES RAICES. En Alquiler = for rent.
Hope that helps |

I disagree. Costa Rica has a lot of history and many cultural activites. There's a whole ministry dedicated to culture. Most expats don't discover these things either because they don't speak sufficient Spanish or they don't get involved with the people here. Even so, language is not necessarily a barrier in art. If you're interested, there are many museums, theatres, and historical sites. Most tourism companies offer cultural and historical tours or will provide information of points of interest and upcoming activities in the area. |

I have meanwhile collected some information.
Interested readers can find it at this location
http://adsz.tripod.com/cr/index-cr.htm
I might update some info at the webpage in January.
As for apartment cost and what is available, use the address in a previous message for La Nation. The paper lists them by location order, showing price. Email or phone contacts are included in the list.
As for jobs, work matters etc. dont ask me! The subject has been extensively covered in other threads. |

The link, "Daily Cost", is down. Just thought I'd let you know. I'd be interested to see what things have been costing you. |

thanks for the message, "nesec" - very thoughtful of you.
some of the internet cafe computers don't show the file types, resulting in double endings like *.htm.htm when saving.
http://adsz.tripod.com/cr/index-cr.htm
is now up, including cost of living page !
When do you plan to arrive ? |
