Fresh from a TEFL course, I've decided to take my first teaching job in Ningbo, mainly because the university came with a personal recommendation and I wanted to be somewhere near Shanghai.

Any advice or information on life there would be great, or if anyone has any information on Zhejiang Wanli University, or is living out there now, please get in touch. I've been to many countries, but know that China is supposed to be an entirely different planet, so it would be good to have some support from you.

Ningbo is on the water which is good. It is near Puto which is a major tourist trap. 12 hours to Shanghai I think. Overall is an average Chinese city. (Read nightmare.) But at least they have KFC. Was thinking of working there but its a bit out in the boonies. In theory you are close to Shanghai but just try getting there. Not to scare you off it might be fine,..

I wouldn't worry about working here. It's not so bad a city, besides being polluted and crowded. I work in Ningbo and so far I haven't really had any bad experiences. Unfortunately I cannot help you with the university you are enquiring about, I have never been there nor do I know someone working there...
Getting to Shanghai is not that difficult, I didn't think so anyway... just a bus ride...about 60-90 RMB... and 4 hours
Also Hangzhou and Suzhou are close by, they make for good week end trips. More peaceful and prettier then the commercialized Ningbo.
