Hey Everyone! I have a really important question and would truly appreciate any advice or information anyone can offer. My friend and I are looking to be placed in Taipei, Taiwan as soon as possible as we were working in Cancun, Mexico for Club Med before and have suddenly been sent home thanks to Hurricane Wilma!
Here's our situation: I want to teach english, and she would need to teach french. Does anyone know how likely it is that we can find schools either together or near enough that we can at least live together? Any recommendations? Websites to look at? Recruiters to contact? Schools to apply to?
Any information would be greatly appreciated! We are getting desperate here and want to leave Canada very soon because we are unemployed now!
Thanks, SandraDee

Does your friend speak English at all? I ask, because the market for French teachers is quite small. Maybe the odd private. But if she can carry a conversation in English, she should be able to land a gig in a kindy. Once a job is found, there is very little interference from management (as long as things go tickety-boo). As Club Med GOs, you'll both naturally have great leadership experience. Use this to your advantage. Being creative with activities is what teaching kids is all about.

As for recruiters, websites or schools, the tried and true advice I am going to offer is what most of us vets agree on. Just get over here. Canada is sapping your finances as we speak. Get to the TECO and get your Visitor Visas, hop a plane and get over here. It'll take you a couple of months to fully settle in, but you are two people, which should make the going a little easier. You'll probably have good jobs in a matter of 2 weeks. Don't sign anything from overseas. Yes it takes guts. But there are lots of jobs, so don't worry too much. Just suck it up. I know the
"unemployed" situtation of Canada all too well. Smartest thing I've ever done was to immigrate here.

Be cool.

actually the unemployment rate at home is the lowest it's been in 30 years. The motivating factor for my wife and I to be here in Taiwan are taxes, which are ridiculous at home. They drop, we'll be home sooner, rather than later. I can always re adapt to winter diving.
