Don't buy a Mexican bicycle. Thought I was getting a good buy when I bought a new bike for 1000 pesos in September...but since then, seems like I go to the taller only slightly less than the lavanderia. Crowning point was last week when my brakes failed at a very inopportune time...almost bit the big salchicha when I went sailing into the side of a truck. Esaped with only minor scrapes and a tacoed front wheel, gracias a Dios.
So if youre bike shopping, spend the extra 600 pesos and get an Italian ride! |

If you are on a skateboard and you are planning to cross at a corner where approaching cars would normally be required to stop and wait for a break in traffic before merging into the main avenida, don't push your luck. i actually got hit by a police car last week and he didn't even brake when i bent his side mirror, just kept on rollin'. wasn't even chasing anyone! |

It's hard enough for pedestrians in this city...I can't imagine being on a skateboard.
I kind of say a prayer and boldly stroll out into traffic when crossing the street. It may be my right-of-way by law, but few drivers know that. |

The other day I was crossing the street (on foot) in my (relatively) quiet neighborhood when I was suddenly confronted by one of those minibuses turning the corner with no thought of pedestrians it might encounter in the crosswalk. Being nimble of foot and a practiced defensive pedestrian, I lived to write this message. I did holler a few choice words at him in English bur refrained from giving the driver the finger, something I learned to do while living in New York City for 13 years. |
