Hello fellow ESLers I am looking for some advice.

My company hired a new teacher a few weeks ago. Great teacher, builds a good rapport with his students within seconds of meeting him. He offers interesting as well as creative lessons to the students.

As far as being professional I have not met any other teacher that show as much initiative as he does.

So what's the problem you ask...last night we went to the bar to have some drinks and he mentions to me that teaching is not what he wants to do...he is looking for a real job!

The fact that he doesn't feel teaching is "a real job" we can discuss in another thread, what I want help with is how to get him interested in teaching. He has a strong gift but does not want to use it for teaching.

Have any of you met a person like this...and have any of you Professional ESLers converted these young talents?

I wait for your answers.

BoboTC

My co-worker is a wonderful lady from Britian. Smart, beautiful, gets along well with everyone.

She hates teaching. Hiding out in China from ghosts of the past.

Too bad. She is a great teacher and does not know it and will not believe me when I tell her so.

Hi Bobo/esl guru...sounds like you met me. I am good at teaching children or so they tell me. I really don't think it is my thing at all. I feel like I'm making no headway. Just one of many small gripes. Don't try to convince people to do things that their gut is telling them not to.
