I just carried all my gear with me on the plane, but then again I travel light. A colleague did send some boxes by Korean Post and they arrived in good shape. Might not be a bad idea to send some not-too-valuables this way.....Good luck in Japan! |

Hi, I also moving from Korea to Japan (in April). For me, the best way is to fly - except that the luggage allowance is only 20kg. I checked with Korea post and the you can mail boxes up to 20kg for about 38,000. They sell big boxes at the post office for 1500 won. They should arrive in 1 to 2 months. As someone else said, I wouldn't send my valuables this way, but for stuff like summer clothing, books etc that might weigh a lot this seems the best idea.
My 2cents is think about how you can pack your stuff and manage it yourself. Even if you can take everything with you (weight limit wise) Can you manage without any help? From everything I've read the trains in Japan don't have a lot of space for baggage either.
Hope this helps. |

I made the move from Korea to Japan in 2002. I went by ferry from Pusan to Shimonoseki, and bought a one-week JR pass at the port in Pusan prior to my departure. I mailed a few boxes from Korea to my new address in Japan, and carried the rest, from Korea all the way to eastern Hokkaido. It went well, but would have been easier if I had known about "Kuro Nekko" Yamato, the freight company, which will deliver stuff anywhere you want in Japan CHEAP. In hindsight, I would have shipped a lot of stuff from Shimonoseki. But, since you are only going as far as Hiroshima, taking your belongings on the train shouldn't be too much of a hassle. Good luck. Like most defectors from the Korean hagwans you probably won't regret the move. |
