Omega Multiplatform Education Consulting Company (OME) in Taoyuan county hires Certified Teachers and I am interested in a position. I found one thing in ESLCAFE implying that they are an illegal recruiting company despite the fact that they say that it's a government organization and I am paid by the government.

Here's a quote and their website:
www.2005omega.com

"OME has been awarded the Taoyuan County government contract to recruit, train, support and manage the foreign teachers in the Taoyuan County program throughout the coming school year.

For three and a half years, from January 2002 to July of this year, the OME team ran a program funded by Hsinchu City, in which we recruited, trained, supported and managed 60 foreign teachers. "

The problem of legality that you mention someone referred to earlier may come from the fact that the Ministry of Education is not the most capable government department in Taiwan.

Local MOE offices have programs to employ foreigners in government schools in their local areas such as alluded to in this ad. The problem is that the central government prohibits the employment of foreigners in any government schools. At the end of the day any action taken against a foreign employee would come from the central government not the local government, so it is quite feasible that a foreign teacher employed under one of these local government programs could likely be hung out to dry through no fault of their own.

The ultimate test as I see it as to whether or not such positions are legal is the question as to whether the employer name on your ARC is the same as the name of the school that you are working at. If it isn't then it is my understanding that you are working illegally. You cannot have an agency or another school or company 'sponsor' you to work at another workplace.
