What countries will allow you to teach LEGALLY without your undergrad, but with the certified TEFL etc...courses???

Also, if teaching in Taiwan Illegally...what are some the penalties to look out for? bad things???

As far as I know, none.

Penalties (if caught) will include fines and deportation. No time at the Grey Bar Hotel, if that's what you mean.

Have you looked into teaching opportunities in Canada? Vancouver has a fairly large ESL industry, maybe they'll accept your TESOL????

Hi

There is a way of doing it in Thailand and I knew people from there who went to China without a degree or TEFL and that seemed to work out ok.

Good luck

Taiwan will allow you to work with a college diploma plus TESOL.

The Taiwan government may allow you to do this, but it seems that information hasn't trickled down to a lot of schools and they may be reluctant to hire you.

It is possible to do this in Taiwan just tell your boss you have the necessary degree and submit the TESOL certificate with your diploma.

Good luck!

I have been in Taiwan now for about 11 days. I have started teaching at a Kindergarten which is illegal in Taiwan but a lot of people do it. The school I am at has never had an incident in 8 years. They let you know when the inspectors are coming. Also I am in the process of the school getting my work visa and ARC with a Diploma and a TESL certificate so we will see how that goes. Kindergartens are nice because the hours are 8-5 monday to friday. :=)

Yes, as the inspectors walk in the front door you will be advised by a panicking admin person to run out the back door as quickly as your little legs will carry you and not to come back until somebody phones to confirm the all clear. I know this because I've done it working for Kojen in their preschool.

This is possible but fairly unlikely, unless the owner is well in with the government. Anyway, they are not likely to tell you they get raided on a regular basis are they?

Very very true. Add to this that working in kindies is much more rewarding than teaching older kids, I found the possibilty of a raid was worth the risk.
