I have a few basic questions that I hope you might be able to help me out with concerning JET.
1)What is the age limit for teaching on the JET program?
2)When do they hire?
3)Do they only hire teachers living in their own countries or is possible to apply and be hired from a third country?
4)Would someone who lived in Japan for 3 years stand any chance of being hired or do they basically prefer to hire newbies without any experience of teaching in Japan? |

1) The maximum limit is 40 yrs of age
2) In Toronto, Canada, the deadline for applications is November 18. You Interviews are on February. You find out if you have been accepted on April or if you are on the waiting list. if definitely taken, then August is departure date for Toronto. Other places in Toronto are earlier in June or July.
3) I am not sure about this, but they have hired from other countries.
4) I believe that Jet likes people who are educated and well rounded but not necessarily experienced. If you have applied in Japan, then they might give you a chance for interview, providing that
a) You did apply for JET before and was accepted but you declined
b) You were not on the JET programme ever
c) You did apply for JET before and was rejected |

JET hires from something like 40 countries. You can send in your application from anywhere in the world. This thing to be aware of is you MUST apply to a consulate in the country where you are a citizen, and you MUST go in person to that consulate in that country for your interview if you get an interview.

Any international experience, and yes especially Japan experience, will help your chances. But some things the above poster said are wrong.
a) You can decline JET and reapply as long as you declined BEFORE they gave you a placement.
b) You CAN do the JET program twice, as long as there is at least a 10 year gap between the two rounds
c) MANY MANY people get rejected the first time, reapply, and get in. JET likes people who reapply because it shows real interest and commitment.
Senza I don't know where you are getting your information, but you shouldnt spread falsities like this.
Hip hop boy: most of what you wanted to know can be found on the official JET programme website. |

All of these questions are answered on the JET web page, especially in their FAQ section. http://www.jetprogramme.org/e/index.html
Under 40 may be the maximum DESIRED age, but they hire people older than that. |

On the JET programme website it says that people who have lived in Japan for three years or more since 1998 are not eligible to work for them, and since I spent three years in Japan from 2000-2003 I don't think I qualify
Actually I'm a few days (6/7) short of three years but I don't think that'll make any difference. |

I think you could apply hip hop boy. If you technically were there for less than three years, then apply. They are pretty technical about sticking exactly to the rules, so if you werent there for three years, you should qualify. |
