|
|
Folks:
Having resigned from a position in Taipei, will be going to Manila, Philippines for 10 days for a Visa run.
Has anyone any experience with the TECO Office in Manila, and what to expect?
Will be changing my status from teacher to student, as will be enrolling at National Taiwan Univ. to study Chinese language and literature.
Thanks for any advice you may have about TECO Manila, and what to expect. |

This is second hand info but it seems quite likely.
The office in Manila is packed to the rafters with nannies etc so you'll have to show up early and be prepared to SHOVE. With our trip there and all the pushy Philipine nannies at the airport, I can imagine how the office would be!
I also heard that they don't have fast service there, possibly upto 5 day but there must be a way around that.
Manila also isn't a great place from my limited experience(and stories I've heard) and expensive to stay in a nice hotel. If you can find a good place to stay that will be half the battle. Other places in the Phil are amazing though!
Maybe somebody else has tried and can offer some 1st hand info!
I tried to PM you but can't get it working- we are coming back to Taiwan from Turkey this week and I am potentially taking a job with the public school elementary system which sounds a bit like yours so I was wondering what you thought about the job.
Also not sure where you want to go to school but the NU in Tainan has a great program. Not sure if that's the one you are going to. |

I have used the Manila office many times and even after overstaying my Visa in Taiwan did not have any problems after a short courteous explanation of my reasons.
The office is very organized, seating is numerical, moving progressively until it is your turn.
You are not in the Nannie, or Broker line. Service will be the same as in every other country, 24 hr visa is available. No problem receiving the one year, 60 day, multiple entry visa.
The accomodation is normally $600-1 000 TW, high season, and is more than adequate; Or you can pay $200 or less. Taxis are very reasonable, 100 P to the Pacific Star building from Pasay City. Always be sure to start the meter in the taxi before it moves.
Manila is as safe as any other city and normal cautions apply. |
