Hey, I have been missing the real teaching over here, I am currently seeing my students for 40 minutes a week. Not enough to teach them anything really. I am what some people here call a real teacher with a teaching degree and EXP in Australia SO I would like to work in an English Medium School.. BUT my official teaching areas are:
English and Drama
What are the chances of being a Drama teacher in China?
I can obviously teach English literature, etc, but all of the jobs for EM schools that I see are after Maths, Science etc... I can't teach Maths to save my life.
How do you tell the difference between an ad for an ESL teacher and a Subject English teacher? |

If you're working in a high school situation, it's not impossible to find some students that enjoy acting and singing. You might talk with the principal and find out how you could go about getting some students involved in a simple production (not too much in the way of costumes or scenery or props or . . . ) - - maybe a Reader's Theater kind of thing. If you have free rein in your class (in other words, you don't have to teach from a pre-chosen text), then there's nothing wrong with having them do scenes from plays or have them create their own scenes and perform.
In my opinion, some schools may not have these kinds of activities (especially in English) because they may assume their foreign teachers don't want to be involved in them or don't know HOW to go about setting something like this up. What a great way for students to learn the nuances of the English language by performing (and/or singing?)! |
