| I have heard that if you collect your receipts say from Migros and other major stores, etc you can get the KDV tax refunded. Does anyone know about this, or how to go about it? |

| Its worth mentioning that you can claim for a number of things like, medicine ,clothes, food items, in fact a number of things especially the rent you pay on your apartment and even some electrical goods . Well worth doing . |

| You also need to be legally employed so many Turkey teflers won't be able to claim and eke out their salary. |

Yeah, but if you're not legal you can save your receipts and give them to legal worker who makes a real (not tefl) pittance-- the canteen guy, your favorite waiter, the simitci... At least you can earn yourself some freebies... |

Of course you don`t know the simitci. I believe that Justme and I are the only forum members who are familiar with some of the street sellers in Beylikduzu. MF lived here briefly some years ago and may remember a few.
In Istanbul proper I am sure that many of them have permits but the further out you go the more cowboy like everything becomes.
I don`t believe that even simitci in such salubrious places as Suadiye have SSK and have no chance in getting their KDV back.
I don't really like simit and never buy any but I do like poagca but always buy them form a pastane. |

I don't want to get the Turkey trots.
Especially since if I have time off work I don't get paid. |

Choose the odd one out:
doctor - lawyer - TEFLer - accountant - dentist - civil engineer - |

or:
sales clerk; waiter; factory worker; receptionist; government paper-pusher; taxi driver; TEFLer.
doctor - lawyer - accountant - dentist - civil engineer - all require a lot more education or training, and at least a post grad degree. Not comparable to TEFL. In the TEFL strata of minimum education and training (lets say BA plus cert) your options are not so brilliant as that list.
I can afford to leave, and in just over 3 years in Turkey I've saved a lot of money and travelled and gone home most summers and I live well (not sharing in a lojmen either). Don't know what your problem is, ML. It's not that hard to find a better paid job here. |
