I have just been offered a teaching position by the Bond Institute in Zhongshan. The information provided by Bond seems too good to be true. Can anybody provide me with feedback/information on the Bond Institute so I can make an informed decision whether to accept the position or to keep searching? Confused

I am her working for Bond... and what can I say? Hmmm... haven't been here long enough to noticed the flaw. The apartment is nice, the money sounds good, yet to be paid, that's next week... and you get broadband and English TV. However, you are fairly isolated from other foreign teachers if they send you to a Middle School or High School as they did me which to be honest would have been nice to be told beforehand. There are flaws so far but most of them you will find in the actual teaching system here, overcrowded classes, poor English abilities from both the students and the Chinese teachers, and a severe restriction on resources. But having spoken to other foreign teachers they have found so far not too bad, as most schools are going to have flaws, Bond's are not the worst. The biggest complaint from the foreign teachers I've met is the isolation. Hope that helps.

Wobbles your quote seems to have some very unusual flaws for a native speaker.

It is. isn't it? I blame the hour at which I was writing it and the lack of concentration on my part. Hope my errors haven't bothered you too much. It really brings me back t my school days, when you are told to double check what you have written.

I worked for Bond last year (2004). The accommodations at Bi Wa Li are acceptable but isolation from shopping is a problem. You'll spend about 500RMB on taxis for shopping and entertainment. The Chinese management staff at the school are all related to the owners...nepotism reigns in China...and most are not capable of doing their jobs. The owners live in Canada and try to manage the school by telephone and e-mail. I had good teaching gigs there but I wouldn't work for them again. Don't believe the BS about all the trips they claim to arrange for teachers or that they provide teaching positions in several other provinces. My advice is to look elsewhere.
