Hi there, I am a Singaporean hoping to teach English in Taiwan.. from what i read is that taiwan requires certain passport to be teachers there? is that true? because i am a degree holder, my first language is also English and my second language is Chinese. I hope this will be an added advantage as I am able to converse to Taiwanese. But I hope a Singapore passport, will that pose any problem? Please advise... and where can I find schools to hire me?

Despite Singaporeans having the clearest English I have ever come accross, (Singlish aside), Singapore is not listed as an English speaking country. This will make it illegal for you to teach English here. The fact that you are 'Chinese' will make it difficult for you to find a job here as most people will think you are Taiwanese and therefore not a native speaker.

In my experience schools, at least on an official level, care little for foreign teachers' mandarin ability. But I guess this differs from school to school.
