Cheapest way to renew 30day visa from Samui
Hi,
Can you guys please advise me?
I'm currently on Ko Samui. My 30-day tourist visa expires soon.
What is the closest port of entry to renew?
I would like to renew with the lowest cost possible.
I've heard people just cross the border (10min) and walk back in. No money involved.
I would hate to have to purchase an expensive 30-day Myanmar visa (just to cross the border and back).
Is there a cheaper way?
Thanks |

Well I initially said Malaysia as you don't need a Visa to go there (generally for most nationalities), but it seems you can get a Visa for Burma for $5 USD, so that would be the easiest (to get to) and cheapest place to go. I assume you've seen it on the other board? |

You can also get a 10 day extension at the samui visa office for about 500 b and the cost of a couple of passport photos.
If you are going to go to the trouble of border hopping then you would be better off going to Malaysia to the border town of Khatu Baru and applying for a two month visa which entails a day or maybe two there (its pretty cheap ) and that plus your ten day extension will sort you out for a while.

Wow, a 10 day extension for 500 baht? Is it legal? Every immigration office in Thailand has 1900 baht on display since August 26th, 2003 when they increased the cost for extensions.
The easiest way might be in Ranong, but if you need to do some decent shopping for western goods, the border in Sadao isn't that far and you can hit the duty free on the way back. |

Bloody hell.
I left Thailand in 20003 for Taiwan and have only been back for a couple of social visits since so have never needed an extension since then.
That sure is a price hike!!!!!
Sorry for the dodgy information and thanks for the update.
