Where seems best for creative opportunities (eg freelance writing, illustrating, painting, etc.) while doing a bit of teaching for bread and butter? Has anyone found any Bohemian hideaways they'd care to share? I've often thought there must be some small towns in Eastern/Central Europe with tourist traffic and reasonable real estate that would be ideal for the artist. I haven't travelled much there outside of Prague and Liberec, but i loved what i saw in the Czech and Austria. Skiing there too.
I would like to check out Newfounland, as it also sounds intriguing. |

Saudi Arabia and other countries of the Gulf are really good for painters and writers as well as poets. There is a lot of solitude and many good art stores, especially in Saudi. Jeddah has huge art and hobby shops because many women who do not work or drive devote their lives to artistic pursuits.
I became a painter in Kuwait and in Saudi but I did not exhibit there. I put my works on the web, found galleries on the Internet, and sent my paintings to them I (wrapped up) by using Aramex. www.aramex.com.
Art can be quite costly so a Saudi salary plus the free time and the relative absence of distractions can fuel insane creativity. One may not find a more inspiring environment than that. |
