does anyone know if the JET program ever picks people from within Japan. (I'm American but currently live in Japan) I was thinking of applying.

| Until recently, you couldn't apply from within Japan. As of last year, you can do that, HOWEVER you must still interview in your home country. |

| They are not kidding around tho. You must fly back to your home country for the interview. I know a bunch of people who have done it. |

| With JET, not only must you fly back for the interview, but they are likely (as they were in my case) to refuse to guarantee your visa unless you leave with the group FROM your home country. If you are on a specialist in humanities visa working for a private company, you will have to switch to an instructor visa for JET (as an ALT...if you are a CIR, you keep your SIH visa). JET is good, but be prepared for a long interview process, and a LOT of money up front. |
