Is there anywhere in China that is not quite polluted? I'm thinking about ruling out China because of polution. |

Everywhere I traveled to in China was quite polluted. However, Hangzhou was pretty nice (beautiful, actually), and I didn't travel all over China, mainly the north and south-central parts. |

Air pollution is often worse in larger centers, better in smaller. Worse in valleys, better on the high spots. Unless you have a respiratory problem or sensitivity, I personally don't consider the air pollution reason to rule out China. However, the air is polluted - no argument - but I think it's managable. |

I'm not sure that holds true - I'm in a fairly polluted small centre. In my visits to bigger cities, the air seemed cleaner...
But there's no denying that pollution is all over China. You do get used to it, but if you're the type that it really gets to, I wouldn't recommend coming.
Good luck in your search.

when you think of pollution you think of cars and industry - but here a lot of it is caused by restraunts and domestic cooking - never live over a restraunt here especially a hotpot. coming home after a night on the town you sometimes need breathing gear to get through the smog caused by street grills (at least in the cities where the police don't drive them away). remember also in some of the bigger cities trucks - so dirty because of low grade deisel used - and motorbikes - two stroke yuck smog - are not usually allowed into the centres making for a much better environment, but then again a lot just has to do with weather conditions - a foggy day here and chockkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkkk. polution here has never been as bad as that I have experienced in Bangkok or Istanbul - but then again i havn't been to these cities for a few years, so if any1 wants to put me up to date be my guest. |

The pollution gets through the cracks in my windows and doors and I wake up in the night to the smell of coal !
I'm coughing up grey phlegm . I'm going home this weekend . I have a cleft palate. I believe my eustachian tube is not as effective as others and the pollution here has resulted in ottis media that I can't get rid of . I've been here a year and a half .If you have a respiratory condition I'd stay well away from here but I've met plenty of people that don't seem to suffer. |

When checking out smaller places in China, also find out what the main industry is in that city/town. If it's a coal producing area even the smaller places can be quite polluted from the refinement process. Concrete production is also a bad one. |
