Hi dmb. I thought of the TKT the other day when somebody asked me if they should consider doing the CELTA (I'd seen the TKT coursebook by Spratt et al in Kinokuniya last year), and soon found the link from which you got the Handbook, plus a few threads on the Turkey forum.

I thought the Glossary pdf also looked useful (scroll down to bottom of following link):
http://www.cambridgeesol.org/TKT/index.htm

I wonder how many native pre-CELTA level wannabe teachers have considered/are considering doing it (doubt if the demand is high amongst those who already have the (money to do the) CELTA); the uptake will depend on the sort of signals that employers are giving about it (probably the standard line is still that 'employers prefer a CELTA i.e. want you to have had observed teaching practise, and contact with trainers generally over at least a month'), but in terms of theory, let's be honest, how much more is there in the CELTA that isn't covered in the TKT (I think people actually can learn a great deal from reading and thinking for themselves, and all TP does is prove you can prep when required and aren't a total wuss).

I suppose the exam might be most popular with e.g. public school teachers in e.g. Japan, who want to appear on paper at least to have jumped on the "communicative" bandwagon.

I'm considering doing the TKT exam this October or November, figure it's something good to add to my CV:

How much does it cost to take the Teaching Knowledge Test? I suppose it may be a different amount for different centres, but approximately... I'm curious.

What would you do though if you FAIL the TKT (especially those of us who already have a CELTA)?! Surprised Laughing Wink

Yup, a little over 100 dollars (certainly below 200) is the price I saw somewhere (I'm pretty sure that was for all three modules/papers at once in the same sitting/exam session...that would be a long exam though if there were no breaks, 240 minutes!!!).
