I found out that Chinese New Year is on January 29th and I was wondering if you guys think it would be a huge problem for me to look for a job then? I was planning to come sometime close to the beginning of January to look for a job. Since I am cbc, I haven't been offered much while in Canada so I'm going to try my luck in person. Confused
Anyways, I did try to go through Footprints and they got me an interview with Kojen. She told me that they requested that no teachers come for interviews between January 6-February 6. Do you think this is the case for other schools as well? Should I wait and come in February instead? Thanks.

It is possible to find a job just prior to Chinese New Year, but it likely won't start until just after Chinese New Year. It is impossible to find something during Chinese New Year as every school will close and all the staff will be on vacation.

You might be interested in doing a Summer camp though. This will give you an introduction to Taiwan, teaching experience, contacts, etc. Deals vary so make sure that you aren't getting ripped off. Negotiate. A friend of mine made about $21,000 for a four day camp while others on the camp were getting less than half of that. Long hours but lots of fun I hear. By the way, it will be illegal for you to work on these camps as you undoubtedly don't have your work visa through them. I wouldn't let that stop me though.

Don't worry about not being offered something from overseas. The only 'jobs' offered are through chain schools or through some dubious recruiters, the latter not specifically having a 'job' for you anyway.
