I've read quite a few different things you should say, but most of the time, they still keep pressing me for a number.
So what should I answer the "What was your salary at your previous job?" question with? |

You really should go into an interview with an idea of their salary range and have a number in your head as to what you will work for.
I hate this question too. I want to make as much as they are willing to give me. |

I agree with Gordon: do your homework.
Barring that, you could reply with:
"What do you normally pay someone with my skills and experience?"
or
"What sort of range did you have in mind?"
FWIW, I've never had to discuss salary at an interview. They have always brought it up first: "The job pays _____, when can you start?" |

Answering a question with a question? I think that might look evasive. Be confident and say the number you believe you deserve, within reason based on research. |

Indeed, it is evasive. That's the point! The idea is to get them to say a number first.
Ok. I'm going home now... |
