Unfortunately I have met an American, so I have to plan around him. (WHY! Why now??? Completely messing up my plans!)
So apparently Guaymas is not that far (or it's as far north as I'm prepared to go - Tijuana? Me thinks not!) from him and I was wondering if anyone could send me contact details for schools in that area! Or advice etc???
It would be much appreciated! Carolynne |

Ive visited Guymas a couple of times but I dont know anything about job opportunities there. I remember seeing a job ad a long time ago for a private secondaria, but I dont think it was here on Dave's. There really isnt a whole lot there, however its not far from Hermosillo, maybe 1.5-2 hours tops by bus. Many more opportunities there. Very easy to jump a bus and go to Tucson as well, when you need stuff or just to hear English
Sorry I cant be more help. I suggest going there with money to tide you over for a while and see what you find. Then go to Hermosillo if you cant find anything. Be forwarned... if you are not used to desert heat... Hermosillo is HOT HOT HOT... worse than Phoenix... Drink lots of water... (applies to Guymas too but slightly less... many from Hermosillo go to Guaymas to escape the heat). |

That's great! Thank you, thank you. South Africa's a long way away from the America's and I know very, very little about what's what. But I do know desert and I do do heat! (I'm also doing the double word thing at the moment - not quite sure what that's about?) Anyway (I've just woken up) thanks! |

Do a search for "Hermosillo" in the Mexico forum... there is someone working there now but I cant remember her name.
Youre from South Africa? Cool... can you bring me a poster for our language lab? Im redesigning/redecorating and Im trying to have things to represent as many English-speaking countries as possible. You'll find that many students in Mexico think the only thing outside of Mexico is the US! |

Thanks for the advice!
It's not only Mexicans who have no idea about South Africa - my students in Italy refused to believe I have a SA father for the first 2 weeks I taught. Oh, and I'm white which was just too much for most of them! Unbelievable! I guess we're a pretty small economy but still! We like to believe we're important! I'll see what I can do about the posters!
