Just wondering, can anybody tell m how much one could expect to pay for a reasonably modern apartment or house. The type of place that can be called home, not just a bare room type of thing. Kitchen, 1 bedroom, living room. In a nice part of a city such as Bandung or Bogor. |

Hi Tommo. Is that a year's rental? How near the city centre is that? Would you be proud, comfortable, shy or downright embarressed for your mother to see where you are living?
Wow, if its anything near nice then thats pretty damn cheap. Less than $100 a month. |

60 minutes to Jakarta - that's good timing, took me 2.5 hours by motorcycle fighting through traffic, fumes and nutty dudes on little mopeds!!! |

I love the economy train back to Jakarta from Bogor. You see some fun stuff sometimes. Just need to keep a hand on your wallet and phone.
Hey anyone know of a good rental agency for apartments? Looking to pay around one million/month. Not sure on area yet (yes I know that makes a difference),maybe somewhere central or close to Blok M or Kelapa Gading. |

Good luck finding an apartment near Blok M or even Kelapa Gading for 1 juta/month. Apartments are generally more expensive to buy and rent than houses in Jakarta.
The cheapest you'll get in central/south Jakarta are Taman Rasuna Apartments in Kuningan. Prices start at around Rp3.5 juta/month + utilities + Rp300 ribu/mo management fee for a 1 bedroom, furnished, unserviced apartment. If you're willing to share, it would work out cheaper, with 2 bedroom rooms starting around Rp4.5juta/mo.
Kelapa Gading has some decent apartments. I'm not sure on prices, but on the whole are better value for money than central/south Jakarta. |

I wasn't talking about a fancy apartment. Just something simple and cheap, ie. one step up from a kost. House is okay as well. I'd actually like to rent a ruko next year when I've saved a bit of cash and had my friend here send me a shipment of PCs. Open up a warnet downstairs so I can get free internet myself lol. I know you don't save much, but I don't drink, so that's a huge expense right there. |

Whenever a friend of mine wanted a place to rent, he got his Indonesian wife to do all the bargaining. The landlord didn't even know a bule was involved until moving-in day. They paid less than half the rent that I had to cough up, and his place was furnished. I had to do the repairs on my place and pay for it! What a rip-off.
The best place I had in five years of rental, was a lovely three bedroomed cottage just out of Yogyakarta; that cost me rp3 juta a YEAR.
Sure, it's not Jakarta, and that Rp3 juta was a month's salary, but I still write to the neighbours 2 years later and it's one place I miss.
In regards to renting a ruko and using downstairs as a warnet, I wish you lots of luck. Firstly, a goodly few of these go broke each week, and secondly, ever tried to find a smoke-free warnet? And you want to live upstairs. No thanks! Try tropical fish - much easier to manage. |

Definitely get an Indonesian to do the negotiating, etc. My jaw just drops when I look at the prices expatriates are paying. There are pretty decent houses in South Jakarta for Rp10-15 million a year, but please don't tell people that. |

wisma gading permai......... mostly 2 bedroom units. 37m2 in tower A and C. about 14 to 17 per year. slightly higher if furnished. . tower B apts are 46m2 and go for 17 to 20 million per year. add a couple million for being fully furnished. pool view is slightly higher and street side is definatly noisier, especially tower B
gading mediterania residences.... apt. 37m2 2 bedroom units are running 13 to 16 million unfurnished and a couple of million more for furnished. i know of a 3 bedroom 2 bath with maid room and wc for 19 million unfurnished. it is about 75m2. might already be rented. i got one for 24/year but includes 4 ac units and pool view. these units furnished are going for 35 to 45 million per month, but i think most will nego alot.
of course you have management fees based on size (m2). electric and water billed by the apt.
be careful renting a house. u dont want to get one in the kampung area because some of the locals will be offended if u bring "guests" over for the night.
if anyone needs more info about apt in kelapa gading, pm me |
