This seems to me to be a very broad topic.
But then again...
Does China count? I personally don't think so (and that accounts for TWO China forums, I guess).
How many of you are in ASEAN nations?
Do you get English language Star World cable?
it bums me out to be in Asia (China) and not have access to this. In Lebanon, Indonesia, Singapore and Malaysia I had Star Word, and it was great. I felt like I was a part of a larger world (unlike in China where everything is Chinese, or the U.S. where everything was American).
In "general Asia" English is a useful tool. It's actually used as a means of communication.
In China, it's a secret code, a dead language, an abstract subject for students to study (much like our grandparents studied Latin).
I'm in arguably the biggest country in Asia, and I miss Asia! ("Arguably" because Russia is quite big as well, but I think of Russia as more European than Asian.)
Does most of the Middle East share this global community vibe that I got in SE Asia?
I'm just curious. |
