OK if you are not an Aussie you won't know who I am talking about. But last night on the way to a wedding one of my students who works for the foreign affairs department here in Dongguan was telling me, he was here for a day, oh also that foreign affairs guy danner or dumber, oh you mean Downer, yeh yeh thats it.
Apparently the Chinese were very impressed by Mr Whitlam's deep interest and understanding of Chinese culture.
Just changing the topic, a friend of mine has just published a book and I lent it to this guy to see if she could have it published in China, he is halfway through the book and thinks not, too yellow. A pity really because I have used some of the book in my classes and the students have been really eager to find out what happens next. .
Oh by the way, the wedding was great, very plush XO and lobster. I was congradulated on my drinking and singing skills, offered work and lots of lunches. Rambling but I spend more time posting on this forum than e-mailing my friends probably because you can relate more to my experiences.
Cheers Carol

The Old Warhorse in China. Would love to see him here. He could even bring Alexander Dummer on a leash. A very short one. And John Coward...erm...Howard could trail along sniffing Whitlam's arse. Oops! Demarcation dispute! His nose belongs to Bush' bum. Very Happy
