Hi Everyone, Just wondering if anyone has any info or first hand experience about the Chatteries ELTA program. I am considering applying and wanted to know what you Hk'ers think of the program!

I was an elta way back in 1999 and it was a great experience! i loved every moment of my time here. in fact i loved it so much that i moved back here after university in 2002.
Are you going for and elta or gelta position?

I was wanting to go to Hong Kong as an ELTA but they have discontinued the program this year.

Have the stopped the ELTA or GELTA programme?

What qualifications do you have? You may be able to get other jobs too. I had a friend who worked there but they only paid like 8000/ month. I know the new geltas make more than that.

Chatteris used to offer a program that took school leavers (age 18-20)on for an eight month period working as language assistants (eltas) in schools. At one time, I think they had about 100 people here but that scheme has now been dropped in favour of the new Gelt (graduate only) program. These guys do similar jobs to NET teachers but you don't have to have a teaching qualification to get on it (as such, the pay is quite low)Unfortunately, i dont think there are any similar companies here that offer 'gap' years to school leavers - although you might have some luck contacting Hong Kong Polytechnic university?
