What would be the average salary range for teaching jobs? And what types of teaching jobs are available?
I've got a B.Ed, TEFL and 5 years teaching experience in Hong Kong. Any advice would be appreciated.

hkgirlo,

You didn't mention what level you were interested in teaching. If you read about on this board, you will see that the best jobs are at tertiary level and require an MA, unless you have an extensive amount of related experience (for instance, to Arabic speakers... or in academic writing). There are some International School jobs of varying quality... mostly not so good. There is very little language school work available.

You might try a search related to your interests and narrow down your questions. It is difficult to give an answer otherwise.

Try scrolling through these pages on this forum. Or better yet do a search for such things as "vacation", "salary", etc. to quickly find answers to your questions.

Rents in Dubai have gone through the roof. Worth bearing in mind when you look at the salary.

In general UAE salaries are on a par with Saudi salaries. The lifestyle in the UAE is much better, but you are likely to spend a lot more, and the competition for jobs is a lot more fierce.

Don't even think about a job that doesn't provide accommodation. Not an allowance - that will get left behind by the rent increases very quickly - you need accommodation.

If you're an EFL teacher, you're not likely to get anything worth having without an MA, though HCT (Higher Colleges of Technology) sometimes hires people with a Diploma, preferably RSA or Trinity, and substantial experience. There are very few language schools and they mostly take local hires - wives/husbands of people working with the bigger employers, for example.

If you're qualified as a school teacher, check out the schools listed here:-

They're not all good, though. Check out their websites and if you're interested in one, post here again with the name.

PS. As to the original question about salary, the range is very wide. It could be anything from AED5,000 per month at one of the lesser schools to around 14,000 at one of the big three - HCT, Zayed University, UAEU - but for that you'll need an MA and lots of experience.

My advice would be to not even consider anything less than AED8,000 and, as I said before, accommodation would have to be provided.
