Does anyone know anything about Deulcom International? I can't
find any information about them. I'm just wondering if it's a good
place to work, how they treat their teachers, etc. Does anyone
have any experience with them?
Thanks!

PM whynotme - he'll have more relevant information than I have. It has been a few years since I was there. Good luck! |

I visited the Bakirkoy branch a few years ago and observed a lesson by a Turkish teacher friend of mine.
It is the typical TEFL chain with many Turkish teachers and shared native-Turkish teacher classes. The real teachers do the serious stuff and the natives do a bit of speaking. They employed at that time any native speaker and were a joke amongst the few native speakers for employing alkies and east european phd students as native speakers.
It is pronounced dellcom.
Things may have changed but I doubt it. |

I don't see what the problem is with hiring East Europeans or any other nationalities - provided they have native-like fluency in English and are qualified to teach it! |

Are you assuming that the courses are advertised to prospective students as such before they hand over any hard-come-by cash ... and ... |

But that's the problem of the market that markets the 'native speaker is the best'.
The students won't go to a school that advertises Eastern European teachers. I know of native speaker teachers who are Turkish but brought up in the USA with English as their first language who were asked to say they have a different name.
Kind of weird huh? |

Why should the natashas be qualified and have native speaker like fluency when so many of the TEFLers aren't. |
