Yurs and yurs ago in Korea I saw people run from the scene of an accident, leaving a young man bleeding in the street. Nobody gave a toot. I worried, thinking that if they don't help their own they certainly would leave a poor wee foreigner for goners. I came to Turkey and promptly saw a young woman who had been hit by a taxi get scooped up, thrown in a car and whisked off to, presumably, hospital. Not gonna get left in the street here....
But...errr...first aid?
On the South Coast, on a mini bus, a woman had some sort of asthma problem. They stopped the bus, she got off for air and the bus assistant ran for the bottle of lemon cologne. COLOGNE? I imagined Turkish E.R. doctors yelling, "this woman is in pulmonary distress! I need 200 cc lemon cologne stat!"
I hope, if I am ever in an accident here, (Inşallah won't happen. Knock on wood.)I get left in the street as might happen in Korea. I figure I'll have better chances.
(Some Turks agree with me. Turkish daily news-First aid... Turkish style!http://www.turkishdailynews.com.tr/article.php?enewsid=30157 |

Cologne and yogurt are the Turk's first aid.
What about those Turks who go to the chemist's for an injection when they have a cold. What is that injection? |

Yeah saw the article read it had a laugh , but the worrying thing is that too many people don't even know how to administer even the most basic first aid in this country ,stuff that could save lives . I always shudder when kids are charging around, those staircases are solid and unforgiving no one would be able to help anyone who had a bad fall ,recovery position, mouth to mouth ,forget it ,just insahallah . |
