Before Roger and the other God-like tipes crucify me - I did a search but simply did not have the time to read through all the posts.
I got the invitation letter from my employer and did all the medicals etc. Now I have to go to HK to get the work visa (A,D, C, Y, R, E, W!!! I don't know which) My time however is very limited. Can anyone please refer me to the best travel agent, (or whoever - should I go to the consulate myself?), How long will it take? What will it cost etc.
I thank you (Thee, Roger) all
Lou

The visa you want is a Z (work) visa. You can get it from here:

7/F Lower block,
Chiona Resources building,
26 Harbour Road,
Wan Chai,
Hong Kong

3413 2424.

I don't know the exact price but it should be in the region of 700 HK Dollars, thats with the same day service.

If you get there early, before about 10am, it should take them 1-2 hours, leaving you enough time to get back across the border. This is a cheaper alternative to finding a hotel and staying a few days. HK is expensive when you are used to living with RMB.

word on the street is that Rog, inspired by your pic, is going to include in his cruxifiction post the following...

The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the inequities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he, who in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy my brothers. And you will know my name is the Lord when I lay my vengeance upon thee.

be great if vincent vega and jules could help us out with our discipline probs

This time the query is unequivocal: you only need to know that your visa will be prefixed with a letter 'Z' as for "zuo" (or 'gongzuo'). This is the only WORK VISA you can apply for. An 'F' visa is an option for those who come for a one-semester term.

And voldemort gave you the correct particulars of the relevant visa-siissueing authority. IT is the CHINESE CENTRAL GOVERNMENT HK Branch; there is NO "consulate" in HK. And you have zero hopes of obtaining your work visa through an agent unless you are willing to pay him to do the little foot work that you can do on your own.
Agents normally get their visas in Shenzhen, but your visa needs to be approved by the diplomatic service that is in charge of overseas-based visa applicants (even though Hong Kong is in the PR of C).

If you arrive in HK by plane, there is a through bus from the airport all the way to Causeway Bay and, I believe, North Point; Wanchai is about 3 kms east of CENTRAL and just before Causeway Bay.

Arriving from KOWLOON by ferry, you can walk from the Wanchai pier to the CHINA RESOURCES Bldg. in Harbour Rd., just one block south. En route you can change your RMB into HK dollars.

You will probably have to overnight in HK; if you are on shoestrings I recommend the Youth Hostel on Mt. Davis, Western - very, very beautiful view over HK, good air (lofty!), and good atmosphere. Cost: HK$ 65 for members, 95 for non-members. A double room is220.

Good luck
Raj Rog (not Dog Rog).
