I never needed to show my birth certificate until I got married. Then I had to have it translated by the US Consulate here in Mexico.

The local immigration office required me to show them an original birth certificate and to give them a photocopy. No stamps required.

This question is always hard to answer because of the many variables. Your country of origin has rules and regulations about getting international stamps of authencity (apostilles) and every school and state in Mexico also have unique demands on this issue.

Before Mexico, I lived in the States. In the USA, one can go to an office attached to each states Secretary of State and have their birth certificate authenticated(apostilled) If born aboard to at lest one USA parent (as in my case) , then authentication must be done in the Federal Authentication office in DC: In other nationsconduct a web search to learn your countrys procedures. As far as I know (sic) authentication can not be processed in Mexico.
Hope this helps
