Hi, does anyone know if international schools in Spain take on experienced CELTA teachers for young learners (6-16) or do you need to have a Primary School teaching degree? Has anyone worked for any international school which they can recommend. Thanks |

The short answer is that yes, it is possible to find work with international schools in Spain with a degree plus tefl cert.
I taught in two such schools in Barcelona a few years back and although I have a PGCE + tefl there were people who worked there without being qualified either primary or secondary (that is B. Ed. degree or PGCE one year plus degree).
However, you will find more jobs that pay better and offer better conditions if you have a mainstream teaching qualification such as those I mentioned above, with or without a tefl cert (although that helps too). You may get a part- tme postion which is still worth taking if you can combine it with evening efl work in a language school.
For recruitment check out the TES jobs website as well as 'El Pais' and 'La Vanguardia' newspapers, especially Sunday editions. If you are targetting a big city like Madrid, Barcelona or Valencia check out the local British Council where there are jobs noticeboards a well as local international bookshops which also advertise some positions. |
