Has anyone heard about a Hostel called Cats? I visited their website and it seems to be a pretty decent place. Its 17 Euros a night for a room with 8 beds or 15 Euros a night for a room with 14 beds. I heard the location is pretty good too.

I know Moore mentioned about Los Amigos, but I could not find any info on them.

Any input is greatly appreacited. Thanks.

Anyone looking for a place to stay before finding an apartment, here is their website:

It looks ok, pretty good location: here are some pictures I found on a Google search...

...main thing is to go somewhere with a common room and that way you'll meet a few people to go for a beer with and exchange information.

Nooooooo !

I'd booked 5 days there, left after one.

Reason why - noise.

You may like it ... depends what you're looking for. I was in a shared room, could not sleep due to people coming in, at all hours of the night/early morning, laughing, joking, being generally inconsiderate to anyone trying to sleep.

I appreciate that's a hazard with any shared room, but think it's probably exasperated by a) Cat's being in a party-rich environement & b) there being no curfew at the place & c) Cat's having their own very busy bar open until midnight in the basement.

The latter pretty much guarantees a load of somewhat merry people rolling into your room shortly after midnight.

If you intend to be one of them, or otherwise rather merry yourself, then by all means go to Cats - was otherwise pretty good (only one electrical socket in the shared rooms though).

If you're looking for a good night's sleep to gird yourself for non-party Madrid, forget it.

Iam.

Noise is definitely the problem: Los Amigos was the same. Still reckon a big communal hostal is the way forward when you first arrive though for meeting a few people to go for beers with and possibly even flat-hunting together. When you start teaching you have to leave pretty sharp-ish though for the ridiculously early 8 o'clock morning lessons.

Dont waste your time with Youth Hostels in Madrid. The best way to go are the plethora of cheap pensions and hostales in Madrid--and all other cities of Spain. Single rooms are as cheap as 15 to 18 euros a night, and you wont have to worry about people coming into your room and waking you in the middle of the night. Some of the cheapest hostals are near Cats Hostel, which I have stayed at and can attest as being very loud, between Calles Atocha and Magdalena. I stayed at a nice place called Hostal Bentazos on Calle Guevara for 25 a night for two people. Bathrooms were shared, but each room had its own sink.
