I'm planning on getting my CELTA in May, so I'll be done in June. I know most school don't start until August, which is fine. My problem is that I have to be in Pennsylvania mid-September. It's for my best friend and I'm in the wedding so there's no way out of it. Will employers allow me to take a few days off right at the beginning of the semester? This is something I would discuss in the interview (right?) Any thoughts? |

Not where I work. I doubt that I'd have been hired if I'd made such a request in an interview. |

I'm inclined to agree with Ben. I think that for an experienced employee, an employer might be willing to make concessions... but for an unknown new teacher? Nah. |

Maybe it would be best to put off your start date...let them know about your availability up front. |

Ugh!! That's what I suspected. Maybe just wait till after the wedding to get a job? But I want to get out of here now!
Thanks for your honest replies though. |

I would check and see exactly what days you need to be in PA and see if they happen to coincide with any of the national or local holidays that are in September. You may luck out and find that it falls on a puente. And depending on where you are in Mexico you may be able to fly out after work on day and get back in the morning. Good luck to you! |

Ms A is so correct. The many "bridge" weekends we receive are to be looked forward to. And sometimes they are double dips! I can't recall exactly when this is but perhaps someone else will chime in. There was one holiday on a Friday and then another on the following Tuesday. So we had from Thursday to Wednesday off and called it the weekend. You have to love Mexico. |
