The training centre I work for part-time has a memo on the board stating that the Chinese gov't has declared national holidays on Jan. 1, 2 and 3, for new years. My employer will be closed those days.

Can I find any trace of this official information anywhere on the Internet? No.

I know my other school will tell us there is a holiday when we arrive for work on Jan. 2. I would like to know in advance if I have four consecutive days off -- maybe take a little trip.

Has anybody heard of this? What days are you off for new years 2006?

Let me know,
Fallon

I can confirm that January 2nd is a holiday for both government and private organizations making that weekend a long weekend, but I am unsure about January 3rd. I have a feeling that this may be a choice for companies, but it will be interesting to hear what others have to say.

I heard the second of January is a holiday, but I'm expecting to go to work on the 3rd as things stand. If you get the 3rd off, you'll probably work on the 31st Rolling Eyes

I have been told that January 1 is an official holiday in China and because it falls on Sunday next year, it makes sense that January 2 is a substitute holiday.

Found out Friday; no class on Sunday 25th. (Which I didn't expect but this being China one never knows) My semester, which nominally ends in mid-January, is being cut short. My last class is now the 30th Dec. Which means that I'm cramming my guys for the last third of the text. My exam is up to me to schedule, sometime between the 4th and the 14th, so I guess I have 31Dec-3Jan off. Cool. I'll still go to the school, and spend a lot of time in my "office"* being available for them should they need help/encouragement, but I want to get this sucker out of the way and get on with my holidays ASAP. If the school is going to cut me some unexpected slack I'm going to take it.

I was just told today that Jan 3rd is a holiday and that classes are to be made up on Dec 31st. At least I got four days notice - three more than ever before. A student told me when I referred to next Tuesday as the final exam.

Officially 1st of January is a day off. But since it is Sunday, people get 2nd of January off. Normally, there shouldn't be any make up. More over at my school we only work half a day on the 30th (Friday) - because most of the parents/grandparents work half day and want to take their children home earlier.

At this college, it was announced on the 30th that we'd have Monday and Tuesday off, but Tuesday classes would be taught on Saturday (31st).

My oral exams were completed Friday morning and my written exams had been copied over a week ago, so it was just a question of finding rooms three+ days in advance (which was no problem). The Chinese teachers were scrambling yesterday and even worked during lunch! Shocked

Who ever said retaining the integrity of one's professionalism was not possible here in China Question

I don't know where I can find a memo about it but as I heard, it's Jan 1-3 holiday. I was trying to buy a ticket but was informed that they cannot issue a paper one till the 4th as the offices are close. Sad

However, in my school, we only have till the 2nd. No rest for the weary students.
