Hi,
I'm looking to find some textbooks for teaching children English and since the bookstore where I live doesn't have much, I was wondering what the selection is like at Jarir Bookstore in Jeddah. My dad is currently in Jeddah so I can get him to get me some books for the kiddies.
Any recommendations (the kids are 4, 6, 8, 10) based on what's available at Jarir? If you have any ideas on how much they generally cost then that would be great too.
Thanks in advance! |

Are the children native speakers or ESL learners? I doo not see how we can recommend books with so little information !
Jareer has a large selection. They also have a website. |

Hi,
Sorry for the lack of information. I had a look at the Jarir website but I couldn't find any information on books only computers. I haven't been to Jarir bookstore before so I wasn't sure whether it would have a large selection or not.
The kids are ESL Learners not native speakers. They are 4, 6, 8 and 10. They are Malaysian/Chinese. They can read the alphabet and communicate in broken English fairly well. The younger two I'm trying to get moving from the alphabet to 2/3 letter words using phonics. So a good book on phonics would be great as well as some basic grammar or a particular course that would be good for their age level.
The older two are not total novices in English but aren't what I would consider intermediate yet. A structured course to take them through things without boring them would be great.
Any recommendations for useful general books for my own reference would be great too.
Another thing I'm particularly interested to get would be some kind of readers for them (at different levels) to help them in their reading because they have a lack of normal reading material in English.
It's my one opportunity to get books quickly in the next few days so I appreciate all the help I can get in selecting them!
Thankyou! |

Not sure that I would know where to start - but there are lots of books in our local Jareer stores in Khobar and Dhahran. Jeddah is similar.
Maybe someone with time to spare can drop in an have a look for you ? Not me ! Jeddah is a tw-hour flight from me here in Dhahran. |

If the Jeddah store is like the Al-Khobar store, then you will have plenty of choice, both of textbooks and easy readers.
As you said, the website is useless. The best you can do is give your contacts a list of books you consider suitable from the big publsiher catologs, such as OUP or Longman, and put them in a list ordered by priority. |
