Where would you suggest for a short (semi budget) honeymoon? |

`Neko`(as in `cat') I think it is called. Picturesque little spot close to Tokyo I think Could be wrong, I'm sure it is on Honshu
Resonably priced Ryokan with small rooms and private onsen.
Sadly this comes from a very strong reference from a friend of mine not personal experience Maybe one day

I think tjpnz2000 is referring to Nikko which is in Tochigi Prefecture. I think that the tomb of Ieyasu Tokugawa is there as is a very nice pagoda, a very nice temple and the three much hyped, but in reality not so wonderful to see in real life monkeys (hear no evil see no evil, speak no evil).
A nice place to go nonetheless as it is deep in the mountains and has some nice walking trails and many hot springs.
Another consideration for a honeymoon might be Takamatsu in Gifu. It is a very pleasant train ride from Nagoya (2.5 hours) and the town is very historic with lots of authentic Japanese things to see and do. Some really nice ryokans too, but it's a bit expensive and touristy.
In the end, I would go with Kanazawa in Ishikawa Prefecture. Beautiful garden, delicious seafood, lots to do at night due to its bigger size (about 1 million people) and a really nice old Japanese part of town to explore by day. Very romantic! It is also in the middle of Honshu so not difficult to access.
Let us know what you decide! |

Thanks!!! Some great ideas.
How about any of the islands?
It is a budget honeymoon (by Japanese standards) but not too low a budget for a cheap-ish flight and hotel (if in a really nice location). |

For a honeymoon? It's got to be Okinawa! Pick up a copy of "Jaran" for plane/hotel packages out of Tokyo. Anything outside of the major national holiday periods will be cheap (ish).
