What's the news on this place ? Nothing to do with ducks. It is Qatar Aeronautical College. Lack of negative postings means it is positive ? A dubious assumption !

So why no replies ? Does that mean everyone there is idyllically happy ?
Is it a good place to work ? |

It's not the greatest job in the world but keep your head down, don't complain and it's not that unpleasant. |

I have joined a long line of distinguished predecessors who have departed from QP. My resignation letter to Malachy Mulholland, who has been a thoroughly reasonable boss at QAC during my fifteen months there, included such terms as outrageous maltreatment, mismanagement and incompetence on the part of my supposedly professional superiors and surreal third-world conditions. Did I jump or was I pushed? I feel sorry for the students who don't know what they are doing there and for the colleagues who carry on.
If you are thinking about QP, do it via TAFE rather than QAC. Better package altogether.
Best wishes,

Do NOT apply for or accept any job offered by Qatar Aeronautical College. Staff are being compulsorily moved from OK flats into cramped, kitchenless, windowless, dangerously located bed-sits in a ten storey fire-trap and their cars are likely to be withdrawn, all without alternative, compensation or consultation. Doubtless, worse is in store. To do the same job in the same place for far better wages and conditions, apply to TAFE; or else go to Qatar Training Centre or the University or somebody, anybody that looks after employees. The only reason we dont is that we cant. QAC spite and Qatari Labour Law makes escape impossible in the sense that if we resign we have to leave Qatar and lose a lot of money.
This is a serious warning. Anyone who doesnt believe me, ask for details of the acco when discussing jobs and ask details about clothes storage, kitchen facilities, fire escapes etc.
Yours, Exqacguy |

I hate to disagree. I've been to see the new flats and I actually think they are ok. Better than the current ones. They are not kitchenless or windowless. A slight exaggeration Dangerously located? Doha is not South Central LA. It is one of the safest cities in the world. A Fire trap? Why? There are lifts with two sets of stairs with exits. More than the current block I think the previous poster left here with sour grapes( I don't know who the person is)
I think in general teachers don't like change and when change happens they get all up in arms. give it a couple of weeks and everyone will be wondering what all the fuss was about.
I'm personally looking forward to the move. A change is as good as a rest afterall.
If everything is in place- phone, water, electricity, tv,etc. Then what's the problem?
Look at your contract. Nothing is out of order. No the cars arent being withdrawn. |

Look, of course theyre OK. Theyre brand new and newly furnished. They look great. Thats not the point. The point is that QAC are moving employees from 2-bedrom flats to one-bedroom bed-sits, from flats with kitchens to bed-sits with two electric rings and a small sink in the living area, from flats with windows and in some cases a balcony to bed-sits with just one, tiny window, from flats with washing machines to bed-sits with a key to a laundrette, from flats with living and storage and guest space to bed-sits with a couple of vanity drawers and no room for anybody other than a close boyfriend. And all without any warning or compensation.
The diving gear and the glad rags and the books and the sound system nowhere to put them. Unless you lost your luggage on the flight, there wont be near enough space to hang your clothes, even. Good job plastic bags are plentiful here cos thatll be the storage system. Yeah, people whove been staying in hostels or student accommodation for the last few years will probably think its great. All the same, the fact that QAC can reduce terms and conditions so arbitrarily (and they probably will take the cars away before long) is the reason potential victims should be warned off.
On the other hand, I suppose the fact that we accept this and that some people will even call it OK says everything that needs to be said about the status of EFL teachers. We deserve it. |

We have all now been allocated our flats. So this morning I went to see where I will be moving next week. I have a separate kitchen, bathroom, living room and bedroom- not a bedsit. I went with 3 other friends and all of us are happy with our new flats.
True, I'd rather not move but that has got nothing to do with the flats. I'm just lazy. And as my contract is up in a couple of months, it's a bit of a hassle. But as I said previosly I'm looking forward to the move. |

With the impending departure of dmb, I wonder if he still feels as content and happy with the 'accomodation' provided by QAC.
If he is fairly satisfied with the 'new'...as in not yet finished... building..may I suggest he is in a minority of one!!!!! |
