|
I bust my pentax optio s5n by dropping it on Christmas day. I have the address of the pentax office in bangkok but i am up north and i am not sure whether to send/take it to them or send it back to the uk for a repair estimate. Also, if they can repair it here, would it be cheaper than in the uk?
cheers

Oooops!
If you're near Chiang Mai
you could try this place:
Jear Photo - "Inexpensive, reliable and fast camera repairs.
It's amazing how often your camera falls off the bike, and you
can get it repaired satisfactorily. Tried & approved several
times by various riders."
12 Ratchawithi Road , Tel: 053 210809

Yes, 'oops' was what i said when i dropped it.
i am about four hours from chiang mai - in mae sariang - so maybe i can get over there one weekend when i'm not teaching. I'm just concerned that if a non-pentax person repairs it then my warranty will be void. Also, i'm not sure it's even repairable, at least not cheaply, as it seems pretty screwed - it landed on the extended lens and the casing on that broke and will need replacing. It will not switch on or off, just making an 'error' beep whenever i press the power button, and nothing comes on the screen at the back.
I'm also concerned it might invalidate the warranty if i get it done by a non-pentax shop. I think it might be covered on my travel insurance (minus a 50 quid excess) so i may see if i can get it done through that. It would save a lot of hassle if i could get it done here though - i am not going back to the uk for the foreseeable future and i don't have the receipt here, so I'd probably have to send the camera there, and that would take ages as well as being expensive. I want a camera now!
I'll get a claim form from my insurance company and in the meantime try to see whether it can be repaired here cheaply. I'll also get my old man to send me out my old film camera so i'll at least have something .
anyway, cheers for the lead. |

UPDATE:
I went all the way from Mae Sariang to chiang mai at the weekend, taking two days off work to do so, in order to go to that Jear repair place. The bloke said he reckoned it was just the lens casing that needed replacing so he could do it for 1500 baht. I thought it was a bit steep but much better than getting a new one or claiming on my insurance (with a 50 quid excess).
So I go to pick it up on monday and he says he couldn't do it as the actual lens had shattered. So I have to go to Bangkok to the Pentax office to see if they can help, whi the Jear guy reckoned they might - for 4000 baht-plus. I have a feeling they're gonna tell me there that they can't do it either, or only for an absurd fee, and i have to get a new one.
I emailed the UK office asking how likely it was they could do it in BKK but all i got was a standard reply saying i shld send it to the UK office. Any experience of the Pentax people in BKK, anyone? |
