First of all, Feliz Navidad y Ao Nuevo.
Now that thats out of the way...I have a question about taking Spanish classes. Does anyone know of any quality programs that dont have the $400 USD price tag that the month-long UBA course has? While Im sure its a great course, that seems extremely pricey to me. Please advise if you can think of any other programs that start in January.
Thanks. |

Are you sure that the price was quoted in US dollars???
In Argentina the $ sign means pesos!!!
FELIZ NAVIDAD!!! |

Gracias amigo....but yes, it was in dollars, the woman at the UBA office took extra special care to enunciate the dolares americanos part. |

On the UBA website it says the January and February courses are 700 pesos, which is about $200 some odd US. |

www.cui.edu.ar ?
Its is also a UBA language center.
I studied PORTUGUESE and ITALIAN there and was quite cheap. |

Hey Barca, if you`re still curious, I am taking the UBA Espaol para Extranjeros course, and it was 700 pesos. Likely the woman who you talked to was just wrong. |

Just signed up for private classes though. My ADDs so bad Im guaranteed to zone out if Im not being directly yelled at...wait, what? |

Tortuga, what did you need to sign up for the espanol para extranjeros course? Did you need a student visa? Did you just show up on the sign up days and pay for it? I sent an email to UBA asking these questions, but no answer (I'm currently in Brazil). Thanks. |

As far as I know, the UBA doesn't ask for a student visa if you just want to study Spanish... |

Nope, they don`t care if you`re here legally or not. You just go a few days before to take a placement test (unless you`re a complete beginner, in which case it`s not necessary), they tell you your level, you pay everything up front, and then start classes the following Monday. Check the website for the next testing dates. I wouldnt recommend the class though if you`re looking for one-on-one or small groups. The website says the classes have no more than 14 students, and mine has about 20.
So far the class has been OK. The building is decrepit (holes in the walls, poor acoustics), but the teacher is very nice and competent. I suspect all Argentine teachers learn the same teaching techniques, since most of the activities we`ve done so far are the same ones we learned in for teaching in my TEFL course (the teacher there was Argentine as well.) |
