Hope you all had a good christmas/new year.
Just wanted to ask what kind of experience's people have had with the postal system in Argentina. Fast? Efficient? Reliable? Traumatic?
I'd like to have books sent to me on a semi-regular basis, either from home or through Amazon, but am a little worried by the stories I've heard about stuff being stopped/impounded/taxed etc. I'd prefer not to get involved in a paperchase (sic) to receive my books. What do you think?

everything that has been sent to me has arrived, including stuff from amazon UK. sometimes things arrive quickly, sometimes things take a few weeks. it's not a particularly reliable service and i wouldn't trust customs with anything expensive-anything over letter size gets opened and checked. thankfully customs' man wasn't interested in my box set dvd of The Ashes... |

I ordered some CDs from Amazon, paying the appropriate rate to get them delivered to me in 7-14 days. Three weeks later they still hadnt arrived, so Amazon sent me a replacement order. Then a month after my original order my CDs arrived. Three weeks after that the replacement order arrived too!
The moral of that story is that the Argentinean post is slllllooooooowwwww but it does get there in the end. Also Amazon are lovely for sending replacement orders without any fuss! |

As others have said, I wouldn't count on things getting here with much speed. But they'll probably get here. (Although I did have an envelope go missing. It's been six months and it hasn't shown.)
If you order from someplace that'll make good on the merchandise if it never shows up -- as Amazon apparently will -- then I guess you haven't got much to lose.
One thing I will say: I received a small padded envelope a few weeks ago with a T-shirt in it. And I had to pay 39 pesos in taxes to receive it! Not a pleasant surprise. I think books might be exempt from such duties, but I'm not 100% sure. |
