Dear J,

As long as earning/saving money is not an issue for you, then Thailand is a great place!

I wish I could go there to teach English!

I spent two years teaching in Thailand and am currently on my third year teaching here in Taiwan. I would say the difference between the two is money versus quality of life.
I did not earn nearly as much in Thailand as I currently make; however, I had a far better time in Thailand. The people are very friendly and have a very laid back way of thinking about life. I taught in Bangkok and really miss that city. I would love to go back but my Taiwanese wife wants to stay in Taiwan.
One big difference in regards to the teaching profession is the amount of respect that a teacher has in Thailand. Of course I can't speak for everyone. I taught in a very large high school in Bangkok with approximately 65 students per class. They were very well behaved and respected the teachers. Here in Taiwan, teaching high school is to be avoided like the plague (in my opinion). I tried teaching at some high schools here in Taiwan and had to avoid getting hit by things being thrown on a daily basis with no help from the administration.
You won't get rich in Thailand, but if you are suffering from teacher's burnout and want to relax and enjoy life than I would head to the Land of Smiles.
